Business Name Registration Steps:
- Confirm if your Business Name is available through the ASIC website or by calling us 1300 722 796,
- Register the owner of the business name an Australian Business Number (ABN) – if you don’t already have one,
- Decide for what period of time you would like to register the name – 1 or 3 years.
- Once you have all of the above requirements in order, you are ready to apply!
Typically ASIC has a turnaround time of 1-2 business days.
When we receive confirmation of business name registration from ASIC we will froward all relevant documents to you via e-mail.
Although we will contact you with a reminder to renew your business name before your registration is due to expire, we recommend that you note your length of registration to avoid cancellation of the name by ASIC.
Please also be advised that your business name details should always be up to date and you must notify ASIC of any changes within 28 days of a change occurring.
We can make any necessary changes to your business name details on your behalf.
Registering a business name does not give the holder exclusive name rights. The holder may be subject to legal action for using a business name that has the potential to mislead the public.
You could inadvertently infringe on someone else’s trade mark with the proposed business name. Choosing a business name that infringes an existing trade mark can be a costly mistake – it could mean hefty legal bills, drawn out disputes and even closure of the business.
